Cobalt

German

“a deep blue, named after the mineral”

Where it comes from

Kobold, 'goblin'

Fun Fact

German miners named the ore 'kobold' because they believed it was cursed by goblins: it looked like valuable silver ore but yielded toxic arsenic fumes instead of usable metal when smelted.
